How to Redeem The Time
March 31, 2022
Commentary
How true it is that “A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother” (v. 1). The son who is characterized by wisdom, causes his father to rejoice, This is the case of Solomon himself (I Chron. 22:12) and (II Chron. 1:7-12). Because Solomon asked for wisdom (II Chron. 1:10), God gave him wisdom, knowledge, riches, wealth and honor. The righteous may be poor, but the Lord will not allow him to want who is needful for spiritual life (vv. 2-3). “The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish” (v. 3).
We see the importance of our sons and daughters learning how to work diligently (vv. 4-5). Those who are fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, are likely to be rich in faith, and good works (v. 4). Those who trifle away opportunities, both now and in the future will get what is coming to them (v. 5). An abundance of blessings shall be on good men (v. 6). Both the just and the wicked must die; but between their souls there is a vast difference (v. 7). The wise in heart puts his knowledge to work (v. 8). But those who have been foolish in their speech will be exposed (vv. 8-9).
The results are also seen in (Prov. 22:29). Diligence is beautifully set forth in Ruth, the Moabitess, who takes the place of the poor and stranger among the gleaners, to be exalted in due time (Ruth 2-4). Paul says, to “walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time” (Col. 4:5).
Application
Am I redeeming the time? Let me think today of how I can use my time better and not waste it. I must ask God to give me wisdom so I will use the time He’s given me wisely.
