Who Christ Says we are as Christians

Topic: Identity
Passage: 1 Peter 2:9–10

July 25, 2019

Commentary

In these two verses Peter is dealing with AN IDENTITY CRISIS. We live in a world where many people, both in and out of the body of Christ are experiencing an identity crisis. In light of our identity crisis, we must deal with the pre-conceived opinion of:
WHO THE WORLD THINKS WE ARE – The world thinks that we are nothing more than second-class citizens. That we’re nothing more than freaks, fanatics, frauds and extremists.WHO WE BELIEVE WE ARE – Many have been taken up with the belief that we are a product of their own selves. In other words, “You are who or what you are because of your own power.WHO CHRIST SAYS WE ARE – In spite of who the world thinks you are…. who you believe you are…… You’’ve got to know who Christ says you are……. Look at the text……(v. 9) Chosen Generation: (Selected, Elected, and Preferred). A Royal Priesthood: (Majestic). Holy Nation: (God’’s holy nation).  Peculiar People: (God’’s very own possession).Bought with a price: “Your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost, who is in you…… You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify  God with your body……” (1Cor. 6:19-20)

Application

It is important that I know who I am in Christ. It is not who the world thinks I am or who I think I am but who Christ knows I am.

1 Peter 2:9– 10 (NET)

9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 You once were not a people, but now you are God’s people. You were shown no mercy, but now you have received mercy.
